Cheap Birthday Party Ideas

Cheap birthday party ideas will help you cut the costs, but doesn't mean that you cut out the fun!

When you get into planning a birthday party, naturally ideas pop into your head and the most common thought is one that will be cost effective and fun at the same time. Birthday party supplies can cost more than the actual gifts but not if you look around and see what value you can get for your money.

The most common thing that people want to do now is throw birthday parties consisting of a theme. Birthday party themes come in all shapes and sizes, from Barbie and super heroes to 60's and 80's themes for children’s parties. The following birthday party ideas are meant to be cost effective but also a lot of fun.

Try making your own decorations and also bake your own cake. If you have a computer, you can use one of your software programs to make your own banner and cards. This will save on buying a banner or special ordering a banner so that the name will be included.

Most of the other decorations can be made from paper plates that have been drawn on and colored. These homemade decorations can be hung up with cheap string that can be bought at a one price store or can be hung up with fishing line. As far as the cake goes, you can buy a nice brand of cake mix, some frosting and sprinkles, then bake and decorate the cake yourself. This will also make the effort worthwhile as the child will appreciate it even more.

For a sports theme, find out what your child's  favorite sport is as well as their sports hero. Borrow some sports clothes from family and friends (if your child is not taking part in that particular sport - highly impossible).

For a university student an excellent theme would be having a “Rubik’s Cube” theme party. With this theme,  everyone who would be coming to the party would be wearing an outfit where each piece of clothing is a color from the Rubik’s cube.
